Hagrid's Treats

Ingredients:
1 cup rolled oats
1/3 cup margarine
1 cup boiling water
3/4 cup cornmeal
2 teaspoons white sugar
2 teaspoons beef bouillon granules
1/2 cup milk
1 cup shredded Cheddar cheese
1 egg, beaten
3 cups whole wheat flour
Directions:
1.Preheat oven to 325 degrees F (165 degrees C). In a large bowl, combine rolled oats, margarine, and boiling water. Let stand 10 minutes. Grease cookie sheets.
2.Thoroughly stir in cornmeal, sugar, bouillon, milk, Cheddar cheese, and egg. Mix in flour, 1 cup at a time, until a stiff dough has formed.
3.Knead dough on a lightly floured surface, mixing in additional flour as necessary until dough is smooth and no longer sticky. Roll or pat out dough to 1/2" thickness. Cut with cookie cutter (I prefer bone shaped), and place 1 inch apart onto the prepared cookie sheets.
4.Bake 35 to 45 minutes in the preheated oven, until golden brown. Cool before serving. Store in a loosely covered container.

Pumpkin Peanut butter Dog Treats

2 1/2 cups whole wheat flour

2 large eggs

2/3 cup pumpkin purée, canned or fresh

3 tbsps peanut butter

Preheat the oven to 350°F. Place all ingredients in the mixing bowl of a stand mixer

fitted with a paddle attachment. Mix on medium for about a minute or until the dough

looks like a bunch of little dough balls. If you pinch a piece and it crumbles, add a little

water. If it’s really sticky, it’s too wet and you’ll need to add a little flour. Gather the

dough together and form into a ball. Place on a lightly floured work surface and roll it out

to about 1/4-inch thickness. You can either use a cookie cutter to cut out cute shapes or

use a knife to cut squares or strips. I am pretty sure the dog doesn’t care, but I rather

prefer the cute shapes. I gather the scraps together and roll them out again and again

until I’ve used up the dough. Place the cookies on a baking sheet. They can be crowded

pretty close together since they don’t expand much. Bake 15-20 minutes for softer

treats or 30 minutes for hard treats (Kaweah likes crunchy treats, just like her person –

me). Let cool completely. Makes 100+ 1-inch heart-shaped dog treats

Peanut Butter Banana Oatmeal Treats

  • 2 ripe bananas
  • ½ cup chunky peanut butter (approx.)
  • 1 egg
  • ¼ cup honey
  • ¼ cup water
  • ½ tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 Tbs cinnamon
  • ¼ cup dry powdered milk
  • ¼ cup canola oil (or other vegetable oil)
  • 1 cup whole wheat flour
  • ½ cup dry oatmeal
  • 2 cups flour (approx.)
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350° F (180° C).
Combine peeled bananas, peanut butter, egg, honey, water and baking soda in food processor (or mixing bowl). Blend well. Add baking powder, cinnamon, dry milk, and oil. Blend well again. Add whole wheat flour and oatmeal. Blend well again. Add bread flour a little at a time, blending after each addition, until it's the consistency of bread dough. Knead for a few minutes. (You could also make the dough in a bread machine using the dough cycle.)
Let the dough sit, covered under a bowl for about 15 minutes, then roll out to about ¼ to ½ inch thick on a floured board. Cut into shapes with cookie cutters or cut into small 1 to 2 inch squares using a pizza-cutter.
Spray cookie sheets with nonstick spray, place dough on sheets, and bake on middle rack in for 30 minutes, until bottom of cookies are golden brown. Turn oven off and leave cookies in oven for eight to twelve hours to harden.
Makes about five dozen, depending cookie size.

Doggie Treat Saturday!!!!

Pumpkin Dog Biscuits

  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 cup canned pumpkin
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons dry milk
  • 2 1/2 cups flour ( wheat is probably better!)
  • water

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
  2. Blend eggs and pumpkin together; add salt, dry milk, and flour.
  3. Add water as needed to make the dough somewhat workable.
  4. The dough should be dry and stiff, don't be concerned with crumbs being left in the bowl.
  5. You will need to mix this with your hands because it is too stiff for an electric mixer.
  6. Roll to 1/2-inch thick.
  7. Cut into shapes.
  8. Place 1" apart on ungreased cookie sheet.
  9. Bake for 20 minutes on one side, then turn over and bake another 20 minutes.

Doggie Treat Saturday!!!!

Peanut Butter and Oatmeal Dog Biscuits

Ingredients:
  • 2 cups whole wheat flour (you can use another type of flour if your dog is sensitive to wheat)
  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • 1/3 cup peanut butter, chunky or smooth (I used smooth this time)
  • 1 1/4 cups hot water

Additional flour for rolling

Instructions:
  1. Preheat oven to 350° F
  2. Mix dry ingredients together
  3. Mix in the peanut butter and hot water. You may need to add more flour if the dough is too sticky.
  4. Knead the dough well.
  5. Roll out the dough into 1/4" thickness and cut into shapes with dog cookie cutters.
  6. Bake on a lightly greased cookie sheet for 40 minutes. Turn off the oven and let them cool overnight.
  7. If you and your dog can't wait that long, cool them completely on a wire rack before serving.
Instead of cutting out more shapes with the left over peanut butter and oatmeal dough, I rolled it into balls. Then I made a cross hatch fork mark on the dog cookies. This is the same way you would do for human peanut butter cookies.
  8. After: The cookies get very hard, just the way dogs like them!
  9. Storing: This peanut butter dog biscuit recipe makes biscuits that will last in a sealed air tight container at room temperature for one week. You can store them in the refrigerator for 3 weeks and in the freezer for up to 6 months.
